Updates:
In July, we officially began our Global Ambassador program in Vietnam! We are extremely excited to announce that our Vietnam chapter has already started to recruit volunteers and will be offering conversational English lessons shortly. Please stay tuned for more information to come! Additionally, we have a new website page completely dedicated to our chapter organization, so if you would like more information, check it out!
English 1 on 1 will be having its first in-person event on Saturday September 4th in Kirkland, Washington. Please check our Instagram for more updates on the Sugar + Spoon food truck that will be catering at the event as well as venue/timings. We hope that many of you will be able to join us so that we can effectively fundraise for the organization. We are hoping to raise a total of $500 in order to fund laptops for our students and purchase important tools for English 1 on 1’s Outreach/Media Committee.
Finally, as we continue to expand our reach, English 1 on 1 is looking for volunteers in the following roles:
Online fundraising coordinator
Teachers
Content Creators
If you are interested, please reach out to us via email or head to the “Apply” page to access our application form!
Volunteer Spotlight:
This month’s volunteer shoutout goes to Harshita! Harshita was one of English 1 on 1’s first international volunteers, and the first international lesson creator. Since joining E1O1 in May, Harshita has shown diligence in creating our new advanced lessons and improving older lessons. The Board and teachers appreciate Harshita’s detail that she puts into lessons and her accurate replication of lesson outlines. Having launched advanced lessons in early 2021, Harshita was a catalyst in the production of lessons for our students who have been with English 1 on 1 for a longer amount of time. Harshita has been very flexible with committee meeting and 1-on-1 times. She is very communicative, which is thoroughly appreciated by the E1O1 Board.
Creating lessons can be time consuming due to the amount of content in each lesson. On average, lessons can take 4-5 hours to be created, and Harshita has created one every two weeks. She excels in writing questions for video and article analysis, and the overall quality of her lessons aids our student’s understanding. On top of that, we tasked our lesson creators to update older lessons with newer pictures and pronunciations to further assist our student which Harshita has been able to do very effectively.
We are incredibly grateful for the additional time that some of our volunteers have invested into our organization during summer vacation. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for English 1 on 1 in the second half of the year!
